The founder of production company Destiny Pictures clarified his business was not involved with a movie trailer-style video shown during President Trump ’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un earlier this week.
CNN reports that Mark Castaldo, founder of Destiny Pictures, said he was surprised to see his company’s name appear on the video, which Trump said he showed Kim during their meeting.
“I was just trying to absorb the whole thing of what was happening. I just tried to answer the emails and try to get out in front and say, ‘I had nothing to do with this,’ ” Castaldo said.
The video was also shown ahead of a press conference with Trump. It depicts the president and Kim having a destiny to secure world peace, and begins with the words “A Destiny Pictures Production.”
Castaldo went on to criticize the video as “overproduced” and “redundant,” but acknowledged it was well edited, CNN reported.
The video was actually produced by the White House National Security Council specifically for the historic summit, according to CNN.
The four-minute video is formatted like a movie trailer. A narrator speaks throughout, weaving a tale about how few men can make a lasting impact on the world. At one point, the narrator says, “there only can be two results: one of moving back, or one of moving forward.”
“Will this leader choose to advance his country and be part of a new world? Be the hero of his people?” the narrator says. “Will he shake the hand of peace and enjoy prosperity like he has never seen?”
While reporters in attendance were surprised and confused by the video, Trump said he believed it got a message across to the North Korean strongman.
“I think he loved it,” Trump said.
The president has drawn criticism in recent days as he continues to heap praise on Kim. He has called the North Korean leader, who is accused of numerous human rights atrocities, “very talented,” a “great negotiator” and someone who “loves his people.”
