Winfrey will create projects for Apple’s rapidly growing original content lineup
Apple has signed a multi-year content partnership deal with Oprah Winfrey, the company announced on Friday.
Under the deal, Winfrey will produce “original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world.” The projects will be released as part of Apple’s original content lineup.
The non-exclusive pact comes in addition to Winfrey’s role as chairman and CEO of the Discovery-owned cable network OWN. Last December, Winfrey extended her deal to remain at OWN through at least 2025.

Winfrey is a big get for Apple, and the deal comes as the various tech companies and studios have scrambled to lock down top-tier talent. The Winfrey deal is one of the first of its kind for Apple, which has thus far only set an overall deal with Kerry Ehrin, the veteran showrunner who will helm the company’s upcoming Jennifer Aniston-Reese Witherspoon morning show drama.
Through her Harpo Productions banner, Winfrey has produced syndicated talk shows like “Dr. Phil,” “The Dr. Oz Show” and “Rachael Ray,” as well as scripted fare like Ava DuVernay’s “Selma,” HBO’s “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” and the OWN drama “Queen Sugar.”
