A new forecast by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicates that the iPhone could be far from being the only big update Apple makes to its devices this year, as many of its lineups will be refreshed.
Apple gets a lot of attention from the media, and it’s no surprise that we’ve seen a lot of rumors and speculation crop up about many different devices from the company. Now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has come forth with a number of predictions regarding its plans for this fall, and they indicate that we could be looking at many new devices this year.
Adding on to previous reports that we’ll receive three iPhone models this year – and that they might come in an array of new colors – Kuo also expects a new iPad Pro model which will come with an 11-inch screen, replacing the current 10.5-inch offering. This could come as a result of the shrinking of bezels, as previous rumors have indicated that the new iPads will feature FaceID and no home button. An update to the larger 12.9-inch model is also coming, retaining the same screen size, which could mean a smaller footprint overall.
The Mac line is also getting refreshed on all fronts with a new MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac and even a Mac Mini. Not much is known about what will change in these devices, but Kuo says the iMac will have significant improvements to display performance. We’ve also heard that a 13-inch MacBook Pro with Intel Coffee Lake processors might be coming, which is logical if a refresh does happen anytime soon. On top of these, we could also be getting a new cheaper notebook, but it may end up not being called the MacBook Air, according to the analyst.
The Apple Watch is also reportedly due for a more visible upgrade, with bigger display sizes of 1.57 inches for the smaller model and 1.78 inches for a larger one, though it’s unclear if this will affect the band size or if the display will be bigger with a similarly-sized case. The new models are also expected to have improved heart rate detection.
Lastly, we could be looking at updated AirPods which, according to previous reports, will feature “Hey Siri” voice activation. Kuo’s prediction also sides with earlier reports that the AirPower wireless will indeed be coming this year.
That’s a lot of new devices yet to be released in before the year is out, and some of them represent significant updates. The Mac Mini, for instance, hasn’t been updated since 2014. It seems unlikely that all of these will be announced at the same event, but you never know. We’ll have to wait and see when and if these devices do come to market.
