Following the end of the previous season earlier this week, Epic Game launches season 5 of Fortnite Battle Royale which adds major map changes to a few of the locations.
After introducing superheroes and new map changes inside of the recently ended season 4, Epic Games is taking things even further it seems for the fifth season of Fortnite Battle Royale. Over the past few weeks, the popular game mode has seen all sorts of odd things occur including weird objects like an animal skeleton and wild west carriage spawn in through dimensional rifts which also cleverly tied into real-world marketing stunts which saw Durr Burger and Llamas appearing in various locations. Season 5 continues that twisted theme which is apparent by brand new locations that have appeared on the map.
As expected, the Fortnite Battle Royale map has once again evolved, which is how Epic has managed to keep the experience feeling fresh each season, rather than introducing additional new maps like its rival, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Within season 5, a new Desert biome has been added which can clearly be seen in the southeast corner of the map. Moisty Mire is no longer moisty as it has evolved into the desert region of Paradise Palms. That’s not the only change however as Anarchy Acres to the north has also changed into a golf-centric location called Lazy Links.
The other locations like Tilted Towers and Pleasant Park remain largely the same, though Epic has teased that the map now features plenty of points of interest spread over the map players will be running into during a match. While the developer has been coy about what to expect, the random objects spawned in from those season 4 rifts apparently continued to happen as ancient statues and Viking warships are just the tip of the iceberg.
The map is not the only new thing inside of season 5 however as new gameplay features and tweaks have also been added including a four-person vehicle known as the All Terrain Kart (ATK) which seems like an upgrade over the previously added two person shopping carts. The ride comes with a number of bonus features including the ability to gain a power boost after drifting and using the roof as a bounce pad. Epic has also introduced rifts into the Battle Royale experience, promising a wild ride for players brave enough to step through them.
Fortnite is available now for Nintendo Switch, iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
