Buckingham Palace honors Aretha Franklin with ‘Respect’ performance

The Welsh Guard Band played a rousing rendition of Aretha Franklin’s hit “Respect” during the Changing of the Guard ceremony on Friday, August 31.
Buckingham Palace paid tribute to the undisputed Queen of Soul ahead of her funeral on Friday with a performance of her hit “Respect.”
The rousing rendition of Aretha Franklin ’s classic was played by the Welsh Guard Band during the Changing of the Guard ceremony.
The guards – part of the Army Music Corps – were dressed in their traditional red military jackets and high bearskin hats for the show at Queen Elizabeth II ’s official residence in London.
The corps said it wanted to do something to celebrate the late diva, 76, who died Aug. 16 from pancreatic cancer .
“Respect for others underpins all we do in the @BritishArmy so it was no surprise that the @WelshGuardsBand paid tribute to musical icon and inspiration #ArethaFranklin at Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace today,” it wrote .
