Here’s how to register for Jio GigaFiber:
Along with the JioPhone 2, Reliance Jio also announced its broadband service Jio GigaFiber at the companys annual general meet (AGM) in July. With Jio GigaFiber, Reliance Jio is aiming to bring high-speed internet to multiple cities across India, and hopes to take on Airtel’s fiber broadband service. The registration for Jio GigaFiber has now started on Jios official website Jio.com and in MyJio App. Reliance Jio at AGM had announced Jio GigaFiber will provide a download speed of up to 1gbps. The registration for the service was supposed to start on August 15 and it has happened.
Jio GigaFiber, as the company announced, will not only power home and enterprise Wi-Fi networks, but also televisions and smart home accessories. The registration of the Jio GigaFiber is happening on Jio.com and MyJio App today. Note that this is not an official rollout of the service. It’s only registration for now. With the registration process, Jio basically wants to know the people and areas most interested in Jio GigaFiber. In other words, it just wants to find out interest of consumers.
Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani at the time of introducing the Jio GigaFiber said that the broadband service would be first rolled out to areas or colonies or localities from where high number of registrations were received. We will prioritise our Jio GigaFiber rollout to those localities from where we receive the highest number of registrations, Ambani had said at the AGM. So, if you want to be among the first ones to get access to Jio GigaFiber, probably also ask your locality people to register for it.

It is important to note that, unlike the JioPhone last year, the customers will not need to pay to register for the Jio GigaFiber.
Jio is yet to announce the plans for the Jio GigaFiber. But reports suggest that the Jio GigaFiber will come with a basic plan of worth Rs 500. Reports suggest that the Jio broadband plans could come in three categories – Jio GigaFiber Speed-based plans, Jio GigaFiber volume-based plans, and Jio GigaFiber special broadband plan. The Jio GigaFiber speed-based plans could start from Rs 500 and go up to Rs 5500. The Jio GigaFiber volume-based plans could offer from 5GB data every day for the minimal amount plan and 60GB data daily plan will be the most expensive one. Lastly, the Jio GigaFiber special broadband plans could have a starting price of Rs 500, followed by Rs 800 and Rs 1000.
Reports, however, suggest that the first three months of the Jio GigaFiber service will be free for customers. And it is only after that Jio will start charging for the services. During the free service, Jio GigaFiber is said to deliver 100Mbps speed.
Another report suggests that Jio may ask for Rs 4500 installation charges when a customer opts for the service. Jio is however said to refund the amount in case the customer decides to discontinue the service.
There is still no official word about the rollout process for the Jio GigaFiber. But, now that the registrations are on, possibilities are that it will be officially available very soon, probably in the next few weeks or a month or so. At the AGM, Reliance Jio has announced that as part of the initial rollout Jio GigaFiber will cover 1100 Indian cities.
Jio GigaFiber will come with two things — Jio GigaFiber router and the Jio GigaTV Set-top box. The GigaFiber router can be used for running internet services on multiple devices at 1gbps speed. While the Jio GigaTV set-top box is for television services. It will also let users make video calls through television. Jio says that GigaTV users will be able to stream 4K videos and play VR games on the network.
Jio has been testing the Jio GigaFiber for over several months now across the country. Some users who are testing the Jio GigaFiber get 100mbps speed, with 100GB monthly limit, while some other users are reportedly getting up to 700mbps speed. Jio has apparently asked for a security deposit of Rs 4500 from these users testing the GigaFiber for the GigaFiber router. However, as already mentioned, if the user in case decides to stop the service the Rs 4500 will be refunded.
