Motorola on Wednesday announced the new P30 in China and the phone bears some striking resemblance to the iPhone X. Here’s what you need to know.
Motorola on Wednesday officially joined the notch bandwagon after announcing its very first notched phone at an event in China. The Motorola P30 comes with a pretty wide iPhone X-like display notch with along with an edge-to-edge display and a ceramic design. The phone also highlights a dual rear camera setup, face unlock and some AI smarts, among other things. The Motorola P30 has been announced only for China as of now.
The mid-range Motorola P30 marks a brand new series that comes with a design that is quite unlike what we have come to see from Motorola. The design keeps with the current industry trend of notched phones and bears a striking resemblance with the iPhone X, something a lot of people have pointed out already. Here’s everything you need to know about the P30.
— The Motorola P30 is the first smartphone in the new P-series that has been launched in China. The biggest highlight of the phone is its display cutout, making it the first Motorola phone to sport the notch. The notch allows for an edge-to-edge display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a large screen real estate.
— The phone comes with a ceramic back in three colours – white, black and a purple + blue gradient colour option. The P30 bears some similarities with the iPhone X thanks to a wide notch and a vertical dual rear camera setup. Motorola says the device has a nano coating on it to keep it water resistant. The device has an aluminium frame and glass on both the front and back.
— Apart from the typical white and black colour options, the P30 also comes in a Aurora gradient colour design that we have seen previously on the Huawei P20 Pro and Honor 10. The P30 also supports Dolby Atmos sound.
— The Motorola P30 runs Lenovo’s ZUI 4.0 skin on top of Android Oreo. The custom UI was brought with the ZUK series but was discontinued. It later surfaced once again on the Lenovo Z5 that was launched earlier this year.
The Motorola P30 is a “designed for China” phone which suggests it will be available on in China, at least for now. It has been priced starting at CNY 2,099 (approx Rs 21,300) while the top end model will cost CNY 2,499 (approx Rs 25,400). The P30 will go on sale in China starting September 15.
As of now there is no word on whether the device will come to India in the future. We may hear something about its global availability at IFA 2018.
