Police have released the name of the woman who died in a crash with a Jackson Public Schools bus on Monday.
JACKSON, MI – Police have released the name of the woman who died in a crash with a Jackson Public Schools bus on Monday.
Jazmin Wilson, 23, died Aug. 27, after suffering fatal injuries in a crash with the bus shortly before noon at the intersection of West Avenue and Morrell Street, Jackson Police Lt. Adam Williams said.
Though the crash is still under investigation, police believe Wilson, driving a Ford Fusion, ran a red light at the intersection while speeding and crashed into the passing school bus, Williams said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her two children, a 3-year-old girl and a 6-month-old girl, were passengers in the Fusion and were injured in the crash.
They were both taken to Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor for treatment. The 6 month old has since been released and the 3 year-old is still in the hospital undergoing treatment, Williams said.
An 18-year-old man, who also was a passenger in Wilson’s vehicle, is in stable but critical condition and is still undergoing treatment at Henry Ford Allegiance Health, Williams said.
A GoFundMe page was created to help the family pay for Wilson’s funeral expenses and for her 3-year-old daughter’s continuing medical bills.
The bus was a special education bus that had just finished its noon run, Superintendent Jeff Beal previously said in a message. Both the driver and a monitor on the bus were shaken, but uninjured, he said.
No students were on the bus at the time of the crash.
