Nintendo has narrowed down the launch window for the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, stating that it will come in the second half of next month. Many details are still unknown, however.
The Nintendo Switch Online service has been a long time coming, having seen significant delays since the initial announcement in January of last year. It was originally planned to launch in the fall of 2017, but the company dropped those plans soon after.
Now, in a new announcement, Nintendo has gotten more specific regarding the launch window for the subscription service. We already knew that it was planned for a September release, but in a news post late last night, it clarified that it will be coming in the second half of next month, giving customers a bit over one month to wait.
Back in May, Nintendo revealed many details of its upcoming online service, such as a family subscription plan for up to eight Nintendo accounts for $34.99 per year. Single-user plans cost $19.99 per year or $3.99 per month. Other details include an offering of NES titles updated to feature online multi-player, cloud backup of save data for games, access to the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app, and more.
With that being said, a lot still isn’t known about the offering: the full list of NES games available at launch, the setup process for backing up save data in the cloud, or what benefits the smartphone app will actually provide are a few of the unanswered questions right now. Nintendo has stated once again that it will share more information as we get closer to the launch, despite the fact that we’re just over one month away from it.
