Chinese certification site TENAA has revealed the battery capacity of each of the new iPhones.
Now that the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR have gone official, some lingering questions about the amount of RAM, LTE speeds and battery capacity that Apple chooses not to reveal during the event are now slowly surfacing. We know that the iPhone XS and XS Max both come with 4GB of RAM thanks to a benchmark listing last week. We also know that these iPhones have significantly higher LTE speeds compared to the iPhone X. Now, Chinese certification site TENAA has revealed the battery capacity of each of the new iPhones as well.
According to the certification, the iPhone XS surprisingly comes with a smaller battery compared to its predecessor, the iPhone X. The new device houses a 2,658mAh capacity compared to the 2,716mAh battery inside the X. What’s more surprising is that the iPhone XR comes with a bigger battery at 2,942mAh capacity. One would have assumed that Apple would fit a bigger battery in its OLED iPhone XS rather than the XR which comes with a lower resolution LCD display. Unsurprisingly, however, the iPhone XS Max has the biggest battery of them all with a 3,174mAh capacity. Notably, this is the biggest battery yet in an iPhone.
Apple during its iPhone event said that the iPhone XR offers the longest battery life out of all the three new iPhones and that it lasts 90 minutes longer than the iPhone 8 Plus. Of course, battery capacities aren’t indicative of real world performance and we’ll only know how well the XR really works after we get our hands on the device. As for the iPhone XR and XS Max, we found the devices to offer a battery life more or less similar to the iPhone X. You’ll manage to get around a full day worth of charge but nothing more than that. iOS 12 has also been pretty helpful in prolonging the battery life compared to iOS 11.
The new iPhones are powered by the A12 Bionic chipset and ship with iOS 12, and thanks to some good hardware and software optimisations, you should see some pretty good battery performance from these devices. Last week, benchmark results told us that the top-end iPhone XS and XS Max offer 4GB of RAM while the XR comes with 3GB of RAM similar to the iPhone X.
