Toronto’s media day opened with a shock: a Kawhi Leonard laugh.
Then it got more serious for the quiet superstar who forced a trade out of San Antonio, who spoke publicly for the first time since.
In his Raptors introduction, Leonard unveiled a seldom-seen smile, a seldomer-heard laugh that was more hiccup than chortle and a deflection worthy of the great defender he is.
At the start of the questioning, Leonard was asked what he wanted fans to know about him. He declined going into detail, signaling they (and media) will get to know him in time, then debuted that laugh because he couldn’t even locate the reporter he was answering.
In more serious moments, Leonard indicated he knew that people want to know his future plans, but said he’s more focused on the here and now.
Leonard, who is a free agent after this season, didn’t offer any hints about whether he will be a Raptor past this season. Leonard says when it comes to what’s next, he looks at it “as a day-to-day process.”
Leonard’s focus “is on this year, this group that I have and striving to get to a championship. We all want to win and if you’re looking in the future you’re going to trip over the present,” he said.
