Trump administration rejects responsibility for parade attack, tells Iran 'look in the mirror'

Top Trump administration officials pushed back hard Sunday against Iranian claims that the U. S. and its allies were behind a deadly attack on a military parade over the weekend, saying that Tehran is fully responsible for fomenting a climate of unrest and instability inside its own borders and across the Middle East.
“He can blame us all he wants. I think what he needs to do is look in the mirror,” U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said Sunday during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” program, referring to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.
Mr. Rouhani — who will be in New York City for a key UN meeting this week — blamed the U. S. and its Arab partners for the attack on a military parade in Ahvaz, which killed at least 25 people and wounded 70 more. The Islamic State, regional Arab separatists and other groups have claimed responsibility for the attack.
Iranian officials say the attack can be traced back to America and its regional allies.
“All of those small mercenary countries that we see in this region are backed by America. It is Americans who instigate them and provide them with necessary means to commit these crimes,” Mr. Rouhani said.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif vowed that his country will respond “swiftly and decisively.”
But top American officials say Iran is simply passing the buck.
“When you have a security incident at home, blaming others is an enormous mistake,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told “Fox New Sunday.”
“The loss of innocent life is tragic and I wish Zarif would focus on keeping his own people secure rather than causing insecurity all around the world,” he added.
