President Donald Trump unloaded on Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski for voting against Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U. S. Supreme Court, in an interview with The Washington Post.
“I think she will never recover from this,” Trump told The Post, adding, “I think the people from Alaska will never forgive her for what she did.” The president continued that Murkowski was “lucky” she didn’t run for re-election for another four years.
Murkowski is the only Republican Senator to vote against Kavanaugh’s confirmation saying she did not believe he was temperamentally fit to serve on the Supreme Court. (RELATED: Senate Votes To Confirm Kavanaugh)
“He’s a good man. He’s clearly a learned judge, but in my conscience, because that’s how I have to vote at the end of the day, with my conscience, I could not conclude that he is the right person for the court at this time,” she said.
Trump did however lavish praise on Republican Senator Susan Collins for her affirmative vote on Kavanaugh.
“I thought that Susan was incredible yesterday. You could see how hard she worked, how hard she was working, she didn’t stop. But I know for a fact because I spoke with her. She didn’t stop. And she gave an impassioned, beautiful speech yesterday and that was from the heart,” the president told reporters Saturday.
