Thousands of people in the UK are worryingly loyal to their broadband provider and often fall into the trap of being too lazy to check for other broadband offers out there. As such, customers are often in the dark as to how much they’re overpaying on their current broadband deal. If this sounds like you, it’s likely you can get a better deal on your broadband, which could significantly reduce your bills every year.
Fortunately the broadband market in the UK is competitive, with new and exciting deals coming out almost every week. Below is a list of all the best broadband deals PCMag have found online for December. There is also advice on what else you need to consider when converting to a new broadband service.
Fibre will always be faster and more stable, making it perfect for homes with more people or just people who are more demanding. 4K streaming, file sharing etc. will all be better with fibre. If you’re just looking to binge the occasional show on Netflix, check your social accounts and do some shopping, standard might be fine.
Fibre broadband is a connection which pumps internet access into your home via fibre optic cables. It’s usually significantly faster than conventional broadband.
There are two types of fibre broadband, Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) and Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). FTTC is the type that is most common in the UK, offered by the likes of BT, Sky and the other main ISPs.
FTTC uses fibre optic cables to deliver the bandwidth from the exchange to cabinets on the street; it is then served to your home using standard copper cables. It usually delivers speeds of up to 76Mbps.
FTTP offers an end-to-end fibre optic connection from the exchange all the way into your home or business.
