AMES, Ia. — Whenever Brock Purdy would sit and watch a Florida football game, he’d be impressed by the toughness, style of play and even the strong faith Tim Tebow would talk about having. Purdy was so impressed with it that he wanted to be just like Tebow.
Just like him.
“He was my idol for everything,” Purdy said. “His toughness man — everything that he did was awesome, and I wanted to emulate that in my game.”
Purdy may be well on his way.
He’s coming off a true freshman season that saw him take over the starting spot midway through the season and finish it passing for 2,250 yards and 16 touchdowns while running for 308 yards and five touchdowns. The running and gunning approach at the quarterback spot is a skillset that Purdy grew up watching in Tebow.
Why Tebow? Purdy looked up to quarterback Dan Marino early in his life, but over the years, he started getting drawn more and more to Tebow.
