Declaring that “we need more joy,” Sen. Kamala Harris on Monday said it is high time for the legalization of marijuana on the federal level — as she acknowledged that she once toked up in college.
During an interview on “The Breakfast Club,” a New York City-based radio show, co-host Charlamagne Tha God asked the 2020 Democratic presidential contender if she had ever smoked pot.
“I have. And I did inhale,” she said in an apparent reference to Bill Clinton’s comments on the campaign trail in 1992 that he had smoked weed but “didn’t inhale it.”
“It was a long time ago but yes. I just broke news,” Harris added, according to Politico.
Charlamagne asked Harris whether she would try it again if its recreational use was legalized across the country.
“I think that it gives a lot of people joy and we need more joy,” she answered indirectly.
The subject came up when the daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants was asked about rumors she opposes the legalization of marijuana.
