Protests took place Monday against President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration made last week. A group of pro-Trump supporters also voiced their opinions on the issue.
Trump declared a national emergency Friday to secure funding for a wall he hopes to build along the county’s southern border with Mexico. Trump’s order freed up $8 billion to collect funds for 234 miles of wall along the U. S.-Mexican border.
Laura Houston, from Tyrone Township, held a sign that said “build a wall around Trump”. She was joined by approximately 30 others in opposition to Trump’s national emergency declaration.
“I was disappointed that he chose to go this route because he’s taking money away from projects it was already appropriated for,” Houston said.
She said she does not believe the wall will get built because the national emergency declaration will be blocked by the judicial system.
