This Green New Deal? It’s green the way the Blarney Stone is — mossy, messy, contaminated from getting kissed too many times by too many people.
You have to bend over backwards to even get at it.
But you know what? I’ll make out with it nonetheless, and take it to the malt shop, and so will tens of millions of Americans, because, while not a beauty, it’s smart, and even has some good ideas, and because its heart is in the right place. Because we’re sick of a mean and stupid man in the White House, and of the brighter folks in his party who kowtow to him because… well I can’t really tell why. If you’re a Republican lawmaker at whatever level, it doesn’t take a chess wizard to see that the strategy here is to note the emperor’s lack of clothes, because in two years, when nobody has to deal with him anymore, those who did so unquestioningly are heading back to the private sector, pronto, just like they did all over Southern California in November. Whereas truly bright ones can shine just by showing up, pointing out that the president is a fool who doesn’t speak for them, talking small government and not being insane. A low political bar, one would think.
The Green New Deal, while not insane, is certainly a little nutty.
