Lawmakers Pay Tribute To John Lewis, Civil Rights Icon

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle paid tribute to the Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) ordered the flags at the U. S. Capitol to be flown at half-staff for the Georgia congressman, a civil rights icon who died on Friday at the age of 80 after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
“Not many of us get to live to see our own legacy play out in such a meaningful, remarkable way. John Lewis did,” Obama wrote at the end of his Medium post.
