Hurricane Season Will Be So Active Forecasters Expect To Run Out Of Storm Names

A major hurricane is likely to hit the U.S., according to the forecast.
The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season is moving at the fastest pace in history, so fast that the normal list of storm names are going to run out, meaning storms will eventually have to be named after letters in the Greek alphabet, according to new forecasts.74%. That’s the probability that at least one major hurricane will strike the U. S. this season, according to Colorado State. Hurricanes of that strength usually bring devastating amounts of damage, and this season’s probability is much higher than the average for the past century, which is 52%. “As is the case with all hurricane seasons, coastal residents are reminded that it only takes one hurricane making landfall to make it an active season for them,” forecasters said. The forecast amount for named storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes are all around double what a season normally brings, using data from the past 30 years.
