Major League Baseball’s rollout to Iowa is officially on hold. The Aug.13 game between the Chicago White Sox and St. Louis Cardinals at the Field of Dreams movie site is off, a person with direct knowledge of the game’s planning process confirmed to The Des Moines Register on Monday afternoon. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal first reported the cancellation. MLB decided to err on the side of caution during the COVID-19 crises and not ask clubs to take additional steps outside of the normal routines at this time, including coming to Iowa for the game. But MLB is still planning on making a trip to Dyersville, Iowa, with a game in the cards for 2021, although without a specific date as of yet. Given the franchise’s ties to the 1989 theatrical film starring Kevin Costner, the White Sox are still expected to be part of the game.
