The powerful earthquake struck off the Alaska Peninsula on Monday afternoon. There were no immediate reports of damage.
A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck off the Alaska Peninsula on Monday afternoon, triggering a tsunami warning in the region. The warning was downgraded to an advisory within a few hours, and then was lifted entirely later Monday after waves about two feet high rolled onto the shore in some areas. Some schools on the peninsula were evacuated earlier in the day, but there were no reports of damage. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred at 1:54 p.m. PT some 56 miles southeast of Sand Hill and nearly 600 miles southwest of Anchorage.
