University of Michigan reaches $490 million settlement in sports doctor sexual abuse case

The University of Michigan has reached a $490 million settlement with victims of a former athletic department doctor.
The University of Michigan has reached a $490 million settlement with victims of a former athletic department doctor. The settlement will be shared between 1,050 people who were sexually abused by Robert Anderson, who worked at the University of Michigan from 1966 through 2003 as the director of the university’s Health Service and the team doctor for multiple sports at the school. Anderson, who died in 2008, was reportedly shielded by others at the university–which allowed him to prey on others–including legendary football coach Bo Schembechler, whose own son was one of Anderson’s victims.
