Supporters of former President Donald Trump, in Congress and out, have been criticizing the FBI since agents conducted an unprecedented search of his Florida home — even comparing the agency to the Gestapo, the Nazi secret police.
“I thought in the old days the Republican Party used to stand with law enforcement,” Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “And I hope some of them do today because this kind of rhetoric is very dangerous to our country.”
Democrats seeking answers about the focus of last Monday’s search, in which agents retrieved classified documents while executing a warrant citing the Espionage Act, obstruction of justice and potential mishandling of government records, have been expressing support for the FBI.
“These are career men and women that are simply doing their job,” Klobuchar said. “Their boss, Christopher Wray, was actually appointed by Donald Trump.”
