NYC Mayor Adams Declares State Of Emergency Amid Migrant Busing Crisis

More than 17,000 migrants have arrived in New York City since Republican governors started sending them on buses.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared a state of emergency Friday as the city—as well as several other Democrat-led cities including Washington D.C.—grapple with an influx of tens of thousands of migrants bussed from border states in a Republican-led initiative that’s been decried by Democrats as a “political stunt” to bring the immigration crisis north.
The first Latin American and South American migrants bussed in the program led by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott arrived in Washington D.C. in April. The move has been widely condemned by Democratic lawmakers, including Adams, and labeled a “publicity stunt” by White House officials. Abbott launched the program in response to Biden’s immigration policies, and primarily his plans to terminate the Trump-era Title 42, which had allowed border officials to send migrants back across the Mexican border over pandemic-related public health concerns.
