A video of the bizarre incident caused both an assortment of jokes and serious concerns about animal cruelty and safety hazards for clubgoers.
Miami isn’t horsing around.
After a bikini-clad woman rode a white stallion into a crowded Miami Beach nightclub, city officials called foal. They revoked the business’s license Friday, sending its owners out to the pasture and possibly making them the target of a criminal probe.
A video of the bizarre incident at Mokai in South Beach was posted on social media and caused both an assortment of horse puns and serious concerns about animal cruelty and safety hazards for clubgoers.
“What kind of idiot would do something like this to an animal and endanger people’s lives at that club?” Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber told the Miami Herald . “It’s not tolerable, not right, not humane.”
The video shows a woman wearing a dark-colored bikini riding the horse through the crowd. The animal suddenly bucks, sending the woman to the ground.
Several people in the crowd scream and back away. Then the crowd bursts into applause as the woman and the horse get back up and are led away.
As the video spread like wildfire on social media, so did concerns about the animal’s well-being.
Authorities opened a criminal investigation and were able to locate the horse, telling the Herald that the animal was in good health and safe.
City officials also took swift action against the club. The city manager revoked its license and deemed the incident a threat to public safety and potential violations of animal cruelty laws.
