In a trailer released today, it was revealed that critically acclaimed RPG Divinity Original Sin 2 will be making its way to PS4 and Xbox One consoles this summer.
Indie RPG Divinity Original Sin 2, the sequel to critically acclaimed Divinity Original Sin that was fully funded via Kickstarter in only 12 hours, released a new trailer today. In it, it was revealed that the game will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One this summer.
Divinity Original Sin 2, which has received just as much critical acclaim as its predecessor, originally released on the PC in September of last year. At the time, there was no confirmation on a console release, though many assumed it may get it, as the first game was ported over to consoles. A trailer released today confirmed it will be heading to PS4 and Xbox One this August.
The original Divinity Original Sin released for PC back in 2014 and was lauded for its deep customization and complex RPG mechanics, which earned it quite a bit of praise from fans and critics alike. An enhanced edition was released in October of 2015, which included new content. The enhanced edition also brought the game to PS4 and Xbox One, complete with two player split-screen couch co-op.
The sequel brought the ability to play four player online co-op, which will still be in the console version. Couch co-op will also be returning, however, it will still only support 2 players via split-screen. As with the port of the original, the interface is being adjusted to be optimized for consoles.
The game’s renowned tactical combat and rich RPG mechanics will, of course, be just as deep as they were on the PC. This will allow console players to fully experience what has been regarded as one of the deepest, most complex, and engrossing RPGs to have ever been released. The amount of depth in the title made it the closest players could get to experiencing the freedom and complexity that tabletop RPGs offer without needing to bust out the miniatures and the dice. Due to this, we named Divinity Original Sin 2 one our top indie games of 2017.
While no official date was given, we can expect the console release to happen sometime in August.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is now available for PC, with the PS4 and Xbox One versions coming this August.
