A new leak reveals that Epic Games plans to release Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, with the Switch version of the popular multiplayer game set to include exclusive content.
Ever since Fortnite was released on PC and consoles last summer, fans of the hugely popular co-op shooting and building game have been asking Epic Games to release it on the Nintendo Switch. Their interest in seeing a Fortnite Switch port only ramped up with the release of the battle royale game mode in September. Epic Games itself has commented on fan demands, saying that its hit game would “hopefully” come to the Nintendo Switch but the company has yet to make any concrete announcements.
According to the latest rumors, an official announcement of Fortnite for Nintendo Switch may well be on the way. Earlier this week, Twitter user LeakyPandy tweeted out a thread of Fortnite Nintendo Switch information, only offering up the “most reliable” tidbits that they had heard.
According to the poster, the Nintendo Switch port of Fortnite will include both the Save The World and Battle Royale game modes and it will be officially announced during Nintendo’s E3 2018 presentation. Battle Royale will offer cross-platform play (specific platforms are not mentioned) and Save The World will offer local co-op gameplay between Switch consoles and it will also include “exclusive” content related to Nintendo IPs.
As LeakyPandy themselves notes in the Twitter thread, it is important to take this with a grain of salt. Fortnite is a big game meaning that rumors are constantly flying about Epic Games’ plans for it plus, as E3 2018 is just weeks away, the rumor mill is going to be on overdrive.
However, it is important to note that under the Twitter handle vandal_leaks, LeakyPandy previously leaked correct information about the Nintendo Direct presentation that took place in March. Moreover, this isn’t the first time that someone has suggested that Fortnite is coming to Nintendo Switch, with journalist Marcus Sellars also having “heard stuff” about a Fortnite Switch port back in February.
Fans who have been asking for Fortnite to be released on Nintendo Switch will no doubt be delighted with the information included in this rumor, at least. The exclusive Nintendo content means that there could be wonderful opportunity to take down “husk” zombie enemies dressed as Mario and Princess Peach, while the inclusion of Save The World will allow them to play the narrative game mode on the go. Fortnite Battle Royale on mobile only features Battle Royale meaning that many had been missing out on the co-op story action. The decision to include cross-platform play is also interesting even if it’s currently unclear which platforms will be allowed to play together. If the rumors are to be believed, fans won’t have long for this to all be officially confirmed.
Fortnite is available now in early access on iOS, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
