Japan reported weaker than expected household spending and steady unemployment in April.
Household spending in Japan fell 1.4 percent in April from a year earlier in price-adjusted real
terms, government data showed on Tuesday, well below the expected 0.7 percent decline.
At the same time, the country’s jobless rate held steady at 2.8 percent in April, though the availability of jobs rose to the highest since February 1974 as the jobs-to-applicants ratio gained to 1.
