The numbers, selected late Wednesday night, were: 6,7,16,23,26 and Powerball 4.
About two hours after the numbers were drawn, lottery officials said the golden ticket was purchased in the Bay State.
The whopping grand prize is the largest in U. S. history for a single winning lottery ticket according to Powerball Product Group Chair Charles McIntyre.
The odds of matching all six numbers are one in 292.2 million.
Wednesday’s jackpot is second only to a $1.6 billion prize shared by three people in January 2016.
The current figure refers to the annuity option, doled out in 30 payments over 29 years, increasing 5 percent annually. Nearly all winners favor the cash option, which would clock in at $480.5 million.
Winners should expect to pay about 40 percent or more in taxes
Powerball is played in 44 states plus Washington, D. C., Puerto Rico and the U. S. Virgin Islands, all of which collectively oversee the game.
Drawings are held twice a week, with five white balls selected from a drum containing 69 balls. An additional red ball is drawn from a drum with 26 balls.
