Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) rippe white supremacists who sparked violence in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, saying there is no place for them in the country.
„I have a message to all of the white supremacists and the Nazis who came into Charlottesville today. Our message is plain and simple. Go home. You are not wanted in this great commonwealth. Shame on you. You pretend that you’re patriots, but you are anything but a patriot, “ McAuliffe said at a press conference.
„My message is clear. We are stronger than you. You will not succeed. There is no place for you here, there is no place for you in America, “ he continued.
The governor went on to call for toned down rhetoric across the country.
The governor’s comments came after violent clashes engulfed the small, college town after a white nationalist rally.
Three people were killed and dozens were injured during the violent events.
President Trump condemned the violence at a press conference earlier, however, he appeared to blame „many sides“ and did not mention white supremacy by its name.
„We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides, “ Trump said at a press conference.
„It’s been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump Donald John Trump Colbert questions Trump: What’s tougher than ‚fire and fury‘? Trump’s DC hotel exceeds expectations making M so far in 2017 Graham on North Korea: ‚If we have to, we’ll go to war‘ MORE not Barack Obama Barack Obama Biden endorses Dem in Alabama Senate primary Rice: US has failed in denuclearization of North Korea Trump threatens McConnell MORE. This has been going on for a long, long time, “ he said.
