EA DICE recently revised parts of Star Wars: Battlefront II in response to repeated backlash concerning the game’s microtransactions and restrictions on unlockables, but it appears that the Arcade mode isn’t even exempt from the controversy.
You’d think from the “Arcade” name attached to the Battlefront II game mode that it’d be a way for someone to take a break from the hectic multiplayer or campaign and earn some easy credits, but you’ll only be able to do that to an extent. Game Informer’s Andrew Reiner noticed that the game put a stop to players earning credits after completing a certain amount of challenges with a notice that informed them when they could continue their credit grind.
From the unfortunate restriction shown in Reiner’s tweet, it looks like the game cuts you off and makes you wait for up to 14 hours before you earn any more credits. According to later responses from Reiner to commenters who were incredulous that they’d be limited in the Arcade mode of all areas, it appears that five challenges seems to be the cut-off point for earning the credits. Once you hit that point, you’ll have to wait till later to earn more.
Reiner also said that upwards of 200 credits can be earned from each challenge, but even when completing five of those, that’s still a gain that’s on the smaller side compared to what you’ll need when it comes to unlocking everything. The developers recently slashed the cost of the heroes that can be unlocked via credits, and while the new prices feel immensely better, they’ll still take a while to reach. The most expensive heroes, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, have been reduced to just 15,000 credits, a sharp drop from the 80,000 credits needed to unlock them prior to the change. The least-expensive hero is still Iden Versio with a new cost of 5,000 credits, so you’ll be much closer to unlocking her after a few Arcade challenges.
Star Wars Battlefront II releases on Nov. 17 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
