DETROIT – Michigan State Police are on the lookout for a 2010 Chevy Impala after speaking with a motorist who reported one of two early morning highway shootings in Detroit.
The Northville man told troopers he was driving home from work on westbound I-96 near Davison Freeway around 3 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 when a silver Impala pulled alongside his vehicle and fired shots. The man pulled over and found his car had been struck, though he was uninjured.
Troopers arrived shortly after the man called 911 to report the shooting and closed I-96 from 5 to 6 a.m., according to state police. They were able to locate evidence, including two shell casings.
Another shooting was reported at 2:40 a.m. on westbound I-94 near Gratiot Avenue by a Chesterfield man, who told police an unknown vehicle opened fire after pulling alongside his vehicle on the highway.
The second victim was injured, troopers said, and was able to exit the freeway and ask for assistance at a gas station. The man called police around 3 a.m. and was transported to a local hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg, according to police.
He has since been treated and released, troopers said.
A stretch of I-94 was closed from 6:30 to 8 a.m. as state police investigated the scene; no evidence was found.
State police are asking witnesses to either highway shooting to call 734-287-5000.
Shooting Update: We continue to have westbound I 94 closed at Conner. We are trying to open the freeway as quickly as possible but the processing of a scene this large takes time. pic.twitter.com/Qxjh23LhVr
