David Ogden Stiers, best known for his role as Major Charles Emerson Winchester in the TV comedy M. A. S. H., died Saturday, aged 75.
He died „peacefully at his home in Newport, Oregon after a courageous battle with bladder cancer,“ the MKS Talent Agency tweeted.

Born in Peoria, Illinois, he was best known for his role as blue-blooded Major Winchester in Korean war comedy M. A. S. H..
He joined the cast in its sixth season, replacing Larry Linville’s character Frank Burns, and playing a snobbish surgeon who acted as straight man and foil to the cast’s practical jokers.
He earned two Emmy award nominations for his role in the show, which ran from 1972 to 1983.
He went on to do voice acting in several Disney features, playing Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast and played characters in Lilo & Stitch and Pocahontas.
In all, he had more than 150 radio and television credits, with appearances on the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Perry Mason television movies.
An avid classical music fan, he was a resident conductor for the Newport Symphony in Oregon and guest conducted orchestras around the country in dozens of productions.
