New speculation is circulating about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 that suggests the rumored battle royale mode will come to the Switch as a standalone release.
There’s no denying that the battle royale subgenre is one of the hottest trends in gaming, if not the hottest. Of course, the big titans right now are PUBG and Fortnite, but more established franchises, such as Battlefield and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 are thinking of offering battle royale modes to capitalize on the craze. There is even an interesting rumor circulating in regards to the latter series.
Coming from an anonymous source that claims Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will not only be getting a battle royale mode, which has been rumored before, but also that it will come to the Switch. From the sounds of it, this mode may be coming to Nintendo’s newest console as a standalone release. On other platforms, the battle royale mode may be bundled with copies of Black Ops 4.
This rumor is by no means confirming that the full title will release on the Switch. If true, this will mark the first battle royale game coming to the Switch, unless PUBG or Fortnite make their way to the platform in the interim.
There has been a lot of controversy and confusion regarding the decision to include this mode in the newest installment of the franchise. Many are even worried that the battle royale mode, which is supposedly being developed by Raven Software, is what will be replacing the campaign mode in the game. The reason for this worry is that the focus for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be on Zombies and multiplayer, not the single player campaign experience. It hasn’t been confirmed whether this means the campaign is being scrapped or if it won’t be as heavily featured as it was in the previous Call of Duty games.
Not many other confirmed details have been coming out about Black Ops 4 since it was leaked earlier this year, outside of Activision confirming that the leak was indeed true. Most information has been speculation and rumors, which have been coming from reliable sources. Most recently, it was reported that the game would feature multiplayer similar to Overwatch.
We will have to wait to get more confirmation from Activision regarding the strings of rumors. Luckily, we won’t have to wait for long, as the publisher is planning on doing a livestream on May 17th. More information regarding the title, including confirmation or denial of these rumors, should be revealed then. Plus, E3 2018 will be taking place in June, so the next few months should shed some more light on the game.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will release on October 12 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
