The long-awaited Detroit: Become Human, releasing next month on the PS4, is getting its first playable demo, taking players through the first scene in the game.
Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human is getting a playable demo tomorrow, April 24, downloadable via the PSN Store. Having just gone gold, the developer is marking the occasion by giving fans and newcomers alike the chance to experience the long-awaited title before its release next month on the PS4.
According to the PlayStation blog, Quantic Dream is making the opening scene of Detroit: Become Human, titled Hostage, available for download tomorrow just after midnight. The playable demo will put players in control of one of the key characters in the game, Connor, a hostage negotiator and android sent to defuse the situation.
The first demo released for Detroit: Become Human will work in conjunction with any Amazon Alexa enabled device, utilizing an extended Alexa Skill called “CyberLife.” The extension will help navigate players through the investigation and provide insights into various characters, environments, and scenarios. Using an Amazon Alexa bluetooth device, demo players will be able to ask questions like “Alexa, ask CyberLife to tell me about the Phillips family?” and “Alexa, ask CyberLife why Connor failed to reach Daniel in time?”
Quantic Dream is well-known for creating immersive and personal experiences, heightened by emotional narratives heavily influenced by player choices. The decision to incorporate “CyberLife” and Alexa into the experience is an interesting effort to bring another dimension of immersion to the table.
“As you take on the role of Connor, a hostage negotiator android sent to take control of this high-stakes situation, the CyberLife Skill will help guide you in your decision making throughout the investigation process, while giving you a deeper look at the various characters involved within the Hostage demo. It will also give you insights on how you can best alter your decision within the experience that could result in a different ending outcome,” says Quantic Dream’s Co-CEO.
Quantic Dream looks to be emphasizing the extent that player choices affect the story in Detroit: Become Human. This could be in response to criticisms the studio received after releasing Beyond: Two Souls, which featured a more linear storyline compared to its earlier release, Heavy Rain.
Writer and director David Cage recently revealed that the game will be “spectacularly more bending,” thanks to a massive 2000-page script and multiple story arcs across three main characters.
Detroit: Become Human will be available on May 25 for the PS4.
