Television and movies based on video game properties don’t exactly have a good track record, but Netflix aims to change that with its upcoming series The Witcher. Not a lot of details are out surrounding the series, but showrunner Lauren Hissrich occasionally gives fans tidbits of information through Twitter. Just recently, she revealed how long The Witcher will be and when it will likely air.
“EIGHT EPISODES,” she said in a tweet . “Yes! I know, I know, it may not seem like enough for you, but creatively, it’s the right call. The episodes can be tight, action-packed, rich in character and story, without lagging in the middle of the season. Sounds good to me, sound good to you?”
She followed up with, “2020. Who knows?! We’re moving quickly ahead with everything — like, my head is spinning around Exorcist-style, except with enthusiasm, not evil possession — but one thing is certain: quality comes before speed. You’ll get it as soon as humanly possible, and it’ll be good.”
The date may seem far away, but the series was announced just last year and only the pilot has been written so far. Hissrich still needs to get through the other seven episodes, which will happen once new writers join her soon.
The Witcher will be filmed in Eastern Europe, a fitting location for the Polish series. Once they begin casting and shooting, the pilot will be polished more.
