April Fool’s Day is here again, and with it comes some strange announcements, including Eevee in Tekken 7 and a peculiar new job listing at CD Projekt Red.
April Fool’s day is coming to a close, but the day left us with a slew of fun jokes and announcements from the gaming world. From Eevee in Tekken 7 to a peculiar CD Projekt Red job posting, here are the most interesting announcement from this year’s April Fool’s Day.
The fluffy, adorable Eevee is bringing the fight to Tekken 7, or at least it looks that way according to a screenshot and promo material showed off by the Project Eevee Twitter account. The screenshot shows Eevee with Devil Jin, and while it is very clearly fake the image is still funny to see. Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada even got in on the joke, taking to Twitter to say he had “zero discomfort” with the friendly fighter joining Tekken 7’s roster.
This year for April Fool’s Day, Square Enix took the most “fun” part of Final Fantasy 14 and made it mobile. Square Enix “developed” Final Fantasy 14 Go, not to poke fun at Pokemon Go, but rather at themselves. In the app, players will be able to gather resources on the go, no longer tethered to their console or PC.
Speaking of Pokemon Go, this year Niantic added “cutting-edge” 8-bit graphics to the hit mobile game as part of its April Fool’s festivities. Old-school fans of the Pokemon series will likely love this new nostalgic feature, while it lasts.
Fans of the hit indie game Shovel Knight should be excited because today Yacht Club Games “announced” that Shovel Knight is on its way to the Commodore64 – perhaps not the console fans were expecting by the title.
CD Projekt Red is hard at work developing Cyberpunk 2077, and that means they need to bolster their staff to ensure that the game is amazing. Today, CD Projekt Red posted a job listing looking for a “Design of Game Environments” for their studio. You can check out the job requirements and responsibilities here.
Lastly, Rocket League had a bit of fun for April Fool’s – giving players a chance to really show off their hats. When players logged in today, all of their hats and car toppers were blown up to extravagant proportions. Psyonix took to their development blog to say that the “issue” of the big hats will be resolved by tomorrow.
It’s nice to see game developers having a bit of fun on this silly holiday. Some fans will surely miss the big hats or retro graphics, but after today most things will likely settle back down to normal.
