President Trump has fired back at those who criticized him for using the phrase “mission accomplished” to celebrate the recent airstrikes on Syria.
“The Syrian raid was so perfectly carried out, with such precision, that the only way the Fake News Media could demean was by my use of the term ‘Mission Accomplished.’ I knew they would seize on this but felt it is such a great Military term, it should be brought back. Use often!” Trump tweeted Sunday morning.
Trump was referencing the response to a message he had posted the day before saying, “A perfectly executed strike last night. Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished!”

Though he aimed his defiance at news organizations, social media had also sounded off on his use of the phrase, with one person writing, “Trump saying Mission Accomplished is strikingly similar to George W. Bush’s ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner on an aircraft carrier. We stayed in Iraq for a decade after that ‘Mission Accomplished.’ Let’s pray we don’t see Trump wearing any fighter pilot gear anytime soon. SAD!”
And someone else tweeted, “Mission Accomplished??? Is there ANYONE in the White House with an understanding of history?”
The Syrian airstrikes took place Friday night in retaliation for President Bashar al-Assad’s alleged chemical attack on his own people.
