For ages, Samsung wasn’t the one to blindly follow fads but believed in maintaining its own culture when it came to smartphones. However, the popularity of brands like Xiaomi and Motorola has forced the Chaebol’s to come out of its comfort zone and experiment with its lineup. Now is the era of display notches or taller 18:9 screen aspect ratio, with even budget smartphones flaunting iPhone X-like display notches. And now, Samsung is bringing its Infinity Display to more affordable line-ups. The Galaxy On6 and Galaxy J6 ( review) are two such smartphones to come out of South Korean phonemaker’s drawing board recently. If you are wondering which one of the two is the right fit for your needs, we have compared them together to make it easier for you. So, let’s dive in and find out.
At first glance, it’s very easy to mistake Galaxy On6 for Galaxy J6 and vice versa. This is because both these phones come with identical unibody construction with a metallic finish. Furthermore, the placement of buttons, micro-USB ports, camera modules and oblong fingerprint scanners are all identical. Taking the similarity further, both these phones come with 5.6-inch Infinity displays having Super AMOLED panels. The displays come with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9 and a screen resolution of 1,480 x 720 pixels.
The handset maker is offering both the Galaxy On6 and J6 in black and blue hues, though the latter also gets a gold variant.
Speaking of the performance, both these affordable smartphones have Samsung’s Exynos 7870 chipset ticking at its core, backed by Mali-T830 GPU. The Galaxy On6 gets a single variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage (expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card). The Galaxy J6, on the other hand, gets the same variant as well as a base version having 3GB RAM and 32GB native storage. Therefore, there is not much difference between two when it comes to performance.
Moving to the software, once again both Galaxy On6 and J6 boot the same Android 8.0 Oreo with Samsung’s proprietary interface running on top.
The twinning streak between these two smartphones continues in the camera department as well. Both the Galaxy On6 and J6 come with the same 13-megapixel camera module on the rear panel and an 8-megapixel shooter for capturing selfies. Both camera modules are equipped with a dedicated LED flash on these two phones. Further, there are 3,000mAh batteries under the rear panels of both these handsets.
By now, it’s already established that these two are the same phone with different names. However, while Samsung Galaxy J6 can also be picked from Samsung retail stores apart from online retailers, the On6 is exclusive to Flipkart and Samsung’s online store. This could be one of the key deciding factors since many prefer to experience the handset before making the purchase. Also, for those on a budget, the Galaxy J6 comes with a more affordable 3GB variant. However, apart from this, you can pick one or the other as it makes no difference. Do you prefer buying a smartphone online or would you rather visit a retail store to make your purchase? Let us know in the comment box below.
