Raheem Sterling was a key member of the England squad which finished fourth at the World Cup and returned to club duty in Manchester City’s win at Arsenal on Sunday.
Here Press Association Sport looks at how the forward performed.
Sterling was clearly keen to get stuck into the action after his post-World Cup break. One crunching challenge on Arsenal new boy Matteo Guendouzi resulted in a booking, but the tackle was more enthusiastic than malicious.

The 23-year-old was subject to scrutiny at the World Cup over his finishing. His goal drought with England stands at 26 appearances and almost three years. But the former Liverpool forward was a constant threat here, forcing Petr Cech into an early save before netting his 50th Premier League goal after 14 minutes.
Sterling slotted seamlessly into the City side, as one of three changes to the XI which began the Community Shield win over Chelsea a week earlier. With Arsenal keen to play out from the back, City exerted pressure high up the pitch. Sterling found the overlapping Benjamin Mendy in the move which led to Bernardo Silva’s goal.
