Bungie reveals new details about how players will work towards Destiny 2’s Power level cap in Forsaken, which will overhaul many of its investment systems.
Developer Bungie has revealed much about how Destiny 2‘s weapon systems are ready to change with the release of the Forsaken expansion, including new weapon slots, increased lethality of weapons and abilities, and random rolls. But that’s not the only aspects of the game that are changing soon. The way players gain Power level and the journey up to the top will be quite different in Year 2.
First off, activities that award Powerful Gear are going to get more rewarding. As Destiny 2‘s developer, Bungie, explained in its weekly blog, Year 1 activities had a fixed range of Power that loot could generate. These were hard caps that cemented certain gear at a specific level. But in Year 2, every powerful reward (keep in mind this does not mean every drop and every piece of loot in every activity, but those activities that give more powerful rewards such as raids and Nightfalls) will grant some sort of Power jump.
Bungie went onto explain that, for example, if a player can beat a raid at 40 Power lower than the recommended level, they can expect even more potent rewards to boost their levels. Inversely, even when players are tackling these challenging activities 100 Power above the recommended level, they are still guaranteed Powerful Gear at least one level higher than their current average.
In addition to how powerful rewards work, Destiny 2 is also adding “multiple new sources” in which to get them. Bungie said it did not want to go into detail and spoil what these new sources were, leaving it up to players to discover once Forsaken launches. However, the developer did say that these sources will refresh more frequently than the weekly reset, which will hopefully help the feeling many players had during Year 1 where they just signed in to complete their Milestones, collected their gear, and then signed off for the rest of the week.
Destiny 2: Forsaken releases September 4,2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
