Free Radical’s time-traveling shooter is coming back. THQ Nordic’s current and upcoming lineup includes Darksiders 3, BioMutant, Generation Zero and Fade to Silence.
Publisher THQ Nordic has added the Timesplitters franchise to its massive stable of video game properties. The company announced today it has acquired the rights to the franchise from its former owner, Crytek, and it sounds like there are plans to bring it back under Deep Silver, which THQ Nordic bought earlier this year.
“We are hugely excited to have acquired Timesplitters,” Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of THQ Nordic’s Koch Media, in an official statement. “The original games gave fans a massive content offer and provided a pure and genuinely fun arcade shooter experience. We have many fans of the Timesplitters series among our own staff who are passionate about creating a product that will thrill todays gaming audience.”
Three Timesplitters games were released between 2000 and 2005: two published by Eidos and the third published by Electronic Arts. Developer Free Radical Design planned to make a fourth Timesplitters, but after the failure of Haze, the studio’s 2008 shooter, it failed to find a willing publisher.
THQ Nordic, through Koch Media, also acquired rights to Free Radical’s Second Sight, the studio’s third-person stealth-shooter released in 2004. THQ Nordic also plans to release Second Sight “products” through Deep Silver.
Formerly known as Nordic Games, THQ Nordic and Koch Media have been on something of an acquisition spree over the past five years. Since 2013, Nordic Games has snapped up the rights to Darksiders, Red Faction, MX Racing and dozens of other properties. In 2014, it acquired the THQ trademark and later rebranded itself as THQ Nordic.
THQ Nordic’s current and upcoming lineup includes Darksiders 3, BioMutant, Generation Zero and Fade to Silence .
