The iOS 12 beta is constantly telling users to update to a non-existent update. Here’s how to workaround it until Apple fixes it
That warning was exemplified late this week, with iPhone/iPad owners running the latest version of the iOS 12 beta experiencing near-constant prompts to update their software.
The persistent notification informs users there’s a new version of the iOS 12 beta available, which must be manually dismissed. This would be fine if an update was actually available, but it isn’t… and the notification keeps on coming.
The issue seems to be related to an incorrect expiration date of the current beta. This is what is causing the prompt to update. As such this is likely to dog users until Apple releases a solution. You can see the issue depicted in the screen capture video from Guilherme Rambo below.

Thankfully, there is a workaround. It’s not ideal, but it works and will prevent the constant notifications from impacting your iPhone and iPad use.
All users need to do is travel back in time a little bit. If folks head to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn the date back a month, they will no longer be blighted by the prompts to update iOS 12. The workaround effectively tricks the current beta version into thinking it is still valid, according to AppleInsider.
Of course, that’s going to be pretty inconvenient, due to the side effects of altering the date. For starters, your Calendar app won’t work properly, your Apple Health stats will be skewed, any documents you create will be dated incorrectly and some Safari websites won’t load due to the incorrect clock setting.
Still, it’s probably better than putting up with that constant notification until Apple figures it out in the coming days. The final iOS 12 release is expected shortly after the Apple iPhone event on September 12.
