Sen. Ted Cruz (R-CA) was heckled out of a restaurant in Washington by far-left protesters on Monday, Sept. 24, the latest in an effort by radicals to not allow Republican officials to eat in public.
Cruz and his wife Heidi Cruz were eating on Monday when a group of protesters entered the establishment and began yelling at them.
The protesters confronted Cruz on his position over the allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, but he declined to answer and soon exited.
“We believe survivors!” the group chanted in one clip shared by the far-left group “Smash Racism DC.” According to the group’s Twitter page, it is affiliated with Antifa and also supports the movement to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Another video showed a woman pestering Cruz about whether he’d vote to confirm Kavanaugh.
“God bless you, ma’am,” Cruz said amid the shouts, as he got up to leave with his wife. “Excuse me, let my wife through,” Cruz said as protesters attempted to physically block him from leaving.
The harassment follows Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen being shouted at by a group of far-left protesters in June at another Washington restaurant, while White House press secretary Sarah Sanders and her family were told to leave another restaurant, in Virginia, by management just a few days later. Also in June, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi was driven out of a movie theater by a crowd of protesters.
The two women who have accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct have been unable to provide any witnesses to the alleged incidents or any evidence placing him at the scene of the alleged incidents but that has not stopped people from automatically believing them.
Christine Ford has claimed Kavanaugh assaulted her in 1982 when both were in high school in Maryland, but the four people allegedly at the incident have all denied the claim. Out of dozens of people contacted by reporters regarding the other alleged incident, none said they could help prove that what was alleged actually occurred.
Cruz has been among the many Republicans stating they want to hear the principal accuser, Christine Ford, testify. The hearing has been postponed multiple times in an effort to have her appear and tell her story. She is the only one from the alleged party to not give testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which comes under the penalty of perjury.
“These allegations are serious and deserve to be treated with respect,” Cruz said in a statement . “Professor Ford should have a full opportunity to tell her story before the Judiciary Committee, and Judge Kavanaugh should have a full opportunity to defend himself. That hearing should be sooner, rather than later, so the committee can make the best assessment possible of the allegations.”
Republican leaders have stood by Kavanaugh, with President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell both affirming their commitment to him earlier on Monday.
