Supervisors disagreed on how best to administer the funding and asked the county CEO to bring back options May 26.
Small businesses in Orange County may soon be able to apply for aid in reopening from a county program paid for with $75 million in federal funding.
Details of the program are still being worked out, including a key issue: what would be considered small businesses.
Cities, including Anaheim and Buena Park, are rolling out their own programs offering grants of up to $10,000 to very small businesses – in Anaheim, it’s five or fewer workers, and in Buena Park, it’s 10 or fewer.
County supervisors are unanimous in wanting to help local businesses get back on their feet as the economy struggles during the coronavirus pandemic, but they clashed on Tuesday, May 19, over the best way to do that.
Supervisors Michelle Steel and Don Wagner proposed disbursing $75 million in federal CARES Act funding to the county’s 34 cities, which they said have relationships with their businesses and could better understand their needs.
