The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 559.85 points Thursday after the 10-year treasury yield increased 0.2% to climb above 1.6% before settling at 1.5%.
Feb.25 (UPI) — U.S. markets tumbled Thursday after two days of volatile trading earlier in the week amid rising government bond yields. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed the day down 559.85 points, or 1.75%, falling from a record high set Wednesday. The S&P 500 declined 2.45% and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 3.52%. The 10-year treasury yield increased 0.2% to climb above 1.6% in a move some described as a „flash“ spike, but ultimately settled near 1.5%, The increase in the treasury yield also placed the benchmark rate above the S&P 500’s dividend yield resulting in equities losing their premium over bonds.
