Week by week, Hamilton County gains on the new coronavirus pandemic, public health and elected officials said Wednesday, but only because more people are getting vaccinated. Forty-six percent of eligible residents have received at least one vaccine shot, and Hamilton County Public Health clinics alone doled out 21% more vaccinations just last week. The vaccine appears to be a good weapon against variants of the coronavirus that spread more quickly. As of Wednesday, Hamilton County had 33 cases of the most widespread variant since it appeared more than six weeks ago.
