Natives of the New England scene are making amazing art and reaching audiences around the globe. The Grammys can start with these deserving aces.
Boston often feels a little raw at being snubbed (like when will the J. Geils Band get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!). But this year’s crop of Grammy contenders hits extra hard. The Grammy voters seemed to go out of their way to ignore all of New England.
Thanks to a few top notch area artists (and Berklee College of Music’s immense talent pool) locals will read a few familiar names on the ballot ahead of the 65th Annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 5. Jazz giant Terri Lyne Carrington shows up twice in the Best Jazz Instrumental Album category. The sensation that is the Berklee Indian Ensemble nabbed a nod for Best Global Music Album. Songwriter Amy Allen, who I profiled eight years ago as she started out, has been nominated three times for helping pen hits by Lizzo, Harry Styles and more.
But after that, the local love recedes to a trickle. Meanwhile, natives of the New England scene are making amazing art and reaching audiences around the globe.
