Homeowner not present; origin still under investigation
Firefighters from multiple departments extinguished a house fire early this evening in Cottrellville Township.
Marine City Area Fire Chief Joe Slankster said a fire was reported at a two-story home in the 7400 block of South River Road at around 4:40 p.m. When crews arrived, he said there were flames visible through the roof.
The owners of the home were not present at the time fo the fire, and no one was injured, Slankster said.
The fire’s cause and its area of origin are also still under investigation. „But they’re thinking in the chimney,“ the chief said.
Firefighters from departments in St. Clair, Algonac and Clay Township assisted.
Slankster said the fire was under control within 15 to 20 minutes.
He called it „a quick knock down,“ adding roughly 40 percent of the home was damaged.
„It got into several rooms upstairs and downstairs,“ he said.
